New Home for Bits

Bits is now settled in his new home. He got out soon after we moved him in and came right back on our porch. We then secured the fencing with smaller fence and he is safe and sound in the pen now. He seems to be happy there. Each morning I go out to feed him he is so excited to see me and get him breakfast. He runs the front of the gate and just squeals!! He enjoys a nice pat and a belly rub as well. The chickens like having him over there because they are benefiting from the dropped food. It is funny because the chicken get his food and in return he is eating their eggs. I have found that he loves oatmeal. So I guess I will be looking for sales on oatmeal.

Today we are starting a pen for Bits. It will be an 8 foot by 16 foot pen. He will have his very own barn an a lot of room to root around. I am still undecided about ringing him. I know it will help with the rooting and digging out of the pen so this is something I am considering. He has been enjoying the breakfast I have been giving him. He loves oatmeal and eggs. I also bought him some treats at the store today, one is marshmellows and at first I did not think he was going to eat them but then he gobbled them up. Well I will be posting pictures of the progress of the barn and pen for him. Til then have a nice day.

Some things Bits enjoys

Well we have found a few things Bits really likes. He loves EGGS!! The whole thing. Just lay and egg down and he will bite into it and suck the inside out! He even eats some of the shell. He loves frosted flakes. And if he sees you have dogfood, look out, he will chase you around the porch for it. He goes nuts over the stuff. And of course he is till enjoying all the pets and rubs on his belly.

Day 3 Leash Time

Well today went well. My grandson Jackson who is almost one really liked the pig. When we go out the door and call piggy piggy, Bits comes running to us. He seems to be very happy! So this evening I decided to see if I could take Bits for a short walk. We got the harness out and with my hubbies help I got the harness on. Boy did he squeal but with in a few minutes he got use to it and I took him off the porch for a little stroll in the yard. Again he seemed to be happy with this new adventure. My dog Emily was to nosey and Bits did not like her being so close. I got Bits back on the porch and he is now in the dog house sleeping.

First Night with Bits

We got Bits April 18th from Spout Springs. He is 6 weeks old. We had a 2 hour drive to pick him up, but it was a very nice drive. When we got him home, the first thing I did was give him a bath. Just because he is a pig does not mean he has to smell! So after his bath (which I used my homemade soap) he was smelling much better. We dried him off and put him in a bed of hay in a big plastic tub in the kitchen. He slept there all night. At about 6:45 am I was awaken by a big THUMP... this was Bits getting out of the tub and going into my sons room to play! I got him back in the tub which he jumped out of again. So now he is on the porch where he can go down steps to get into a pen area. He learned to go up and down the steps very quickly.

Day 2: He escaped!!

Some how he got off the porch. We are not sure how he did this so we are hoping it will not happen again. We got him pretty easy but I know pigs are smart and he may find his way out again so we are keeping a close eye on him.
